Yeah, I’m a bit discouraged, these days. But my discouragement doesn’t come from my eschatology so much as it comes from the refusal of conservative leaders to accept the obvious, namely, that we have enemies; they’re inside the gates; they mean us harm, and they’re fighting like crazy and cheating every possible way to subvert everything good. Conservatives discourage easily because the entire purpose of conservatism is to serve as controlled opposition for the more advanced wing of the establishment. As Dabney put it, it’s the mere shadow of liberalism.

I suspect Doug’s use of the word “conservatives” encompasses more than simply political conservatism. I think evangelical, theological conservatism – the kind that believes the truths presented in the Bible to actually be true – were in view here.
