Why Gender Matters: What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences by Leonard Sax
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great information here on the current state of brain science with regard to the differences between boys and girls. Some fascinating stuff here. At the same time, Dr. Sax sometimes wanders off into telling some off-the-track pediatrician anecdotes. He also sometimes flinches when giving us the bottom line. He will say something like this: “I don’t want to go back to the bad old days of woodworking for boys and home economics for girls. But we need to recognize that our society lost something . . .” Yeah, we lost woodworking for boys and home ec for girls. I don’t know why he is so diffident in his conclusions when he is so courageous in stating the actual state of the research. Dr. Sax does not have a biblical worldview and so the end result is a mish-mash. But the mish in here is dazzlingly illuminating.

Reading the reviews on Goodread is instructive. Can you imagine how much more vitriolic the comments would be if the author was a Christian or had infused any Biblical ideas into his conclusions and recommendations?

The first review is particularly instructive, labeling the author as a neo-nazi and then proceeding to un-self-consciously disqualify every single one of his conclusions with all the fascist zeal of your typical SJW. Fun stuff…

What is an SJW and what makes them necessarily fascist?

SJW = Social Justice Warrior. As for fascism, look around.

I flagged it as inappropriate because the neo-nazi falls under the personal attack of their flagging policy. I recommend others do the same. I said, “The neo-nazi accusation is totally gratuitous. Also, the excess of likes compared to the other reviews makes me think this was a planned hit-piece because the reviewer obviously has ideological issues with the Pax’s conclusions.”

Doug’s review has 5 likes, so it only needs 11 more to start appearing above hers. Just have to sort the reviews by newest for his to pop up.

“Sax is someone who would have seriously benefited from a Women’s Studies class–or at least reading Foucault.” lol
