The mark of the covenant in the Old Testament was a mark that most certainly included infants. Male babies were to be circumcised on the eighth day after birth, and this, no less than baptism was a sign and seal of regeneration—not that every circumcised child was regenerate, but rather this pointed to the reality of regeneration as offered through the gospel. It thereby covenantally obligated that child to live before God. Now the new covenant marks a great expansion of God’s grace, not a constriction of it, with the sign now including girls. God’s people have always brought their children along with them, and we are no different. Â
