In order to baptize anyone, we must have warrant from the Word of God to do so. We are not to do anything on the basis of what any mortal says—whether it is the person being baptized, or the parents of the child being baptized. No mortal can give us a warrant for baptizing anyone. We baptize in response to what the individual or his parents say, but our warrant is elsewhere. The foundation of everything is the promise of God. “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (Acts 2:39).
