Some have argued that baptism should be withheld from infants and children because they think it a sign, not of inclusion in Christ, but rather as a sign of ordination—as a sign of taking on the mantle of service for Christ. This would be a strong argument against infant baptism if true, but the Scriptures are plain as to the meaning of this baptism. “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27). “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6:3). So then, we rejoice in the fact that this is the language of our salvation, our justification, and the grace of all forgiveness.
