For those interested in the issues behind and underneath all the different versions of the Bible out there, here is a memoir that Dr. Hills wrote near the end of his life.
Regarding Hills, pretty interesting. I’m reading through some of the linked articles (also on fivesolas) This textual stuff is not something I knew much about. I took a couple of electives in college in the religious studies dept. This stuff was mentioned. My professor was a Christian – Joseph Trafton). I was never concerned about the question of the Bible’s authenticity or inerrancy. That was given in my Country Baptist Church and in my home. You asked whether there was a single book that cleared everything up and, sadly, there is not. Please begin by reading pages 396-441 of Richard Muller’s “Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmatics” [Volume 2]; as they offer an overview of the original textual challenges leveled by Roman Catholics and the orthodox Reformed response. After reading that, I would recommend that you read the books listed below. They all had a significant impact on my thinking and I continue to consult each of them on a regular basis.
