“14 million year old” meteor impact crater.
Older than dirt. Literally.
I was wondering if that one just slipped in on Pastor Wilson on accident or if he was somehow trying to be snarky about it. Cool picture either way, and definitely not something I would have thought anyone would ever try. Here’s a cool additional fact about the city: Stone buildings in the town contain millions of tiny diamonds, all less than 0.2 millimeters across. The impact that caused the Nördlinger Ries crater created an estimated 72000 tons of them when it impacted a local graphite deposit. Probably neither. We notice it, but it is also everywhere.
Further research shows the picture caption is slightly misleading. The town is built in an impact, crater but the impact crater is enormous, nearly 15 miles across. The town is about 3-4 miles from the center of the crater. The nice circular shape of the town is just a circular city wall – it’s not matching the circle of the crater, like I assumed from the photo and caption.

In the larger picture, you can see the town is just a tiny blot in a much larger, much less distinct crater.
