We learn good things from our fathers, and we learn how to sin from our fathers. We are a sinful world because we follow in the footsteps of our father Adam, and we will not emerge from that darkness apart from following the final father, the ultimate human father, the Lord Jesus. Jesus is the only way.
Without Jesus, every form of collectivism turns into tyranny. Without Jesus, every form of individualism turns into anarchy. Only Jesus can provide us with both form and freedom. Only Jesus can give the gift of law and liberty in a way that does not have those two things warring with each other.
And this is also why regeneration is such an important truth. Regeneration is how life spreads to every part of the body. Only a true heart can grasp these two things together, and this is why unregenerate leftists are the coercion monkeys they are, and this is why unregenerate right wingers are all, like, “don’t tread on me.”
But Jesus Christ is the only giver of political liberty. Only Jesus can grant political stability. Only He can provide the two of them together. To therefore exclude the Lord and Savior of humanity from the public square is to set up a giant teeter totter in that square, on which we first elect to the right side, and then to the left. We have been doing this for several generations, and it is starting to loosen our teeth.
Come, then, let us worship God through Jesus Christ.
