His Name is Provision

God is the one who provides for His people. Jesus told us not to worry about clothing, because God was thoughtful enough to clothe the flowers of the field. He taught us not to worry because God took care of all the animals. Jesus taught us, in our central prayer, that we are to ask Him for our daily bread. And the provision of bread really is the central provision—without food and without nourishment, we all would perish.

Food is the central provision, and this spiritual food and drink here is the standing memorial to the God who provides. You assemble, you gather your families, you come—and the food is simply here. Now God uses means, here as everywhere else, and we are grateful to those who work to prepare it. But God provides.

All human existence is conducted in uncertainty. Sometimes we know about the uncertainty, and other times we foolishly don’t. But throughout our lives, God is always certain, always sure, and always there.

Will God provide for us? Will God take care of us? Whenever you have come to this Table, He has always been there. His food has always been present. How would He not provide? His name is Provision.
