World Battles Zondervan

Sharing Options

The good folks at World magazine have been fighting the good fight with the Bible-mongers over at Zondervan. This fight has revolved around the efforts of the latter to market a version of the Bible (the TNIV) that has “gender-accurate” pronouns. This, apparently to distance themselves from the gender-inaccurate translation they did earlier, called the NIV.

As much as I applaud the efforts of World in putting the spotlight on these monkeyshines, I don’t think the efforts can be fruitful. Far deeper forces than just marketing and money are involved. Given the state of the church, this idolatrous Bible has actually become an emotional necessity. Modern evangelicalism hasn’t had any balls for half a century now, and so they must now have a Bible to match.
