Logos School here in Moscow recently announced their plans to build a track and field complex and, having obtained permission from TPUSA, to name it after Charlie Kirk. This kind of thing is mightily offensive to the progressive left, which is going in big these days for assassination chic. In contrast, we simply wanted to honor someone who represented our values, and who did so graciously and honorably, and at the cost of his life.
So a Spokane newspaper, The Spokesman Review, did a story on this, and did so in a way that enabled them to get their digs in . . . both at me and at Charlie. So in this brief response, I want to do at least two things.
First, the artist’s renderings make it look like we are awash in money, which is not the case. The new Logos secondary campus is being built out currently. The Lewis building is completed and in use, and the Tolkien building is framed in and already looking glorious, But there is a lot yet to do, which is why we are in the midst of a capital campaign for all of this. If so led, you can give here, and you can designate your gift toward the Charlie Kirk memorial track and field complex. If you decide to do that, thanks very much, and please tell all your friends that you donated because The Spokesman-Review was being snide about it.
Secondly, there were a few jabs delivered that provide us with an opportunity to chortle and snort, and these are times when you never want to pass up an opportunity to chortle and snort.
The article’s headline wanted everybody to be properly oriented going into the story. “Controversial Idaho pastor Doug Wilson’s school . . .” You know, they wanted everyone to read the first paragraph with a pale brown taste in the mouth.
Among my many itemized offenses, I apparently once referred to the Super Bowl as a “skankfest.” I don’t recall saying that, but it is both an admirable sentiment and a fine turn of phrase. I am therefore happy to claim responsibility. So what is the problem? What? Is the Super Bowl allowed to be a skankfest, but I am not allowed to use a word like skankfest? And what does that have to do with Logos School building an athletic complex? Does the Spokesman want us to have our football games include mandatory skanky halftimes? We’re a Christian school, man.
And, to take just one example aimed at Charlie, he is chided for saying that when he saw a black pilot that he hoped “he was qualified.” But anybody who has kept up with the issues knows that this not an ethnic jab from Charlie, but rather a pointed reference to the deleterious effect that DEI training has on every form of competence training.
So I do want to thank The Spokesman-Review for the publicity. It has helped us to get the word out. And I guess I can also thank them for the ‘tude. It helps to illustrate why we wanted to honor someone who was able to confront and answer such attitudes, and without being contaminated by them. He truly was a happy warrior, and we do honor his memory.
