So, as is our custom, we wanted to share with you how NQN 2024 went from our perspective. We know that you guys had a lot of fun out there, but feel compelled to tell you that we also . . . had a blast. But we want to do more than just say “it was great,” two thumbs up, and then plunge into December. No, I can hear you cry, “We want details! We want stats!” Well, okay. Because you asked.
You—friends of No Quarter November—perhaps want to know whether any of the heat from the Moscow Mood has dissipated since Kevin DeYoung gave us our fancy name. No, quite the reverse, actually. While we are not as hot as Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace yet, things are cooking along quite nicely. The answer by the numbers is below:
First, what happened with our inaugural video? Mr Wilson’s Neighborhood (NQN 2024) had 1.1 million views across all platforms, 90% over last year’s flamethrower spectacular. So that was fun.
Over the course of the month, Canon Press gave away over half a million $ worth of free books. This was over $500K worth of Kindles, which represented a 10% increase over what we did in 2023.
And I know, my little Mablog shoppe is scarcely worth comparing to her older brother at Canon. I mean, think about it (Song 8:8). But nevertheless, we were able to give away over 6K titles. Hope you enjoy.
The invitation to become friends with more people has been is a working strategy. I now have more friends, and possibly more hate-readers, than ever. The Blog and Mablog NQN blogs/videos were read and/or watched 1.4M times this past month.
Speaking of Doug Wilson & Friends, 2024’s wholesome DW&F episodes garnered 325K views (which was 132% above last year’s).
After the neighborhood burnt down in that unfortunate pager accident, the whole thing was rebuilt, and a lot of new neighbors moved in. An underrated stat is that Canon had 22% more new customers this November than in 2023. We were very pleased to have new folks coming on board to bring Canon/Canon+ to their own neighborhoods.
Another cool thing was that I got to wear a red sweater all month, which I never do. I thought it was not only fetching, but also slimming. I mean, benefits all round.
And last, there was Abigail Friday. A few dissident folks tried to start a movement to unsubscribe from Canon+ on Black Friday . . . but by Cyber Monday, we had already netted more new subscribers than had left on Abigail Friday. We sold 8 Unsubscribe t-shirts . . . so unfortunately we have to declare this new embargo attempt dead on arrival. Anyone who unsubbed during November is more than welcome to come back to watch more Tintin with his kids, or to watch Joel Salatin with his wife.
The counter-signalling attempt at establishing a No Comment November must also be reckoned as a losing proposition—at least if we go off all the yelling that came from that quarter.
All in all . . . we consider ourselves more blessed than ever, and have more friends than ever—working on the project of bringing all of Christ to all of life.
And yes, we’re already planning for next year’s No Quarter November. . . which we affectionately call THE OCHO.
And comments are open . . .
It was a great (and entertaining) month. I especially appreciated Wimpathy, and Application, Allergies & Anaphylaxis. And yes, I downloaded every single free book that Canon and Mablog put out there, so thanks for those!
Twelve months is just too long to wait for the next NQN. I suggest you come up with something in between. Let’s see, that would be … May. More Hellfire May? Measured Mablog May? Mizpah Mood May? Moscow Mood May? Mutual Assured Destruction May?
Militant March!
Thank you Doug for outfitting this Reformation. Of the two places called Moscow, yours is having a bigger and way better influence on my little world. Even though the other one is a lot closer by. If only shipping wouldn’t break the budget every time. Greatings and God bless all the way from Austria!
Hear, hear!
This…right here. This is how you follow our Lord’s exhortation in Matthew 5:1-12 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Thank you for this faithful demonstration of “rejoicing in the Lord” even as the fire gets hotter. May your reward in Heaven be great, indeed!
It’s funny how life is. Something I didn’t have just a few years ago, NQN, is something I didn’t realize I needed. God is gracious. I also have a little bit of sadness as the month enters the 20 days knowing that NQN is coming to a close. But, since I am getting old and time passes quickly, NQN 2025 will be soon upon us and I will smile big smiles again (and probably in between).
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for all the free books! Prayers for you and your ministry
Greetings from the Philippines! Thank you very much Pastor Doug for Canon+ and for the freebies! Was glad that Leadership and Emotional Sabotage became available at the end of the month. I was able to share it with my friends.
Though most of the debates and concerns in the past month are focused on issues in the US, I find them helpful in assessing and responding to our own cultural battles here in the Philippines. The jovial warrior-esque demeanor you and others have exemplified is something I hope to have as well.
Thank you once again!
When I read the various references to “the Moscow Mood” in the output of Douglas Wilson, his co-workers and family members over the last year, I can’t help noticing that they use the phrase with quite a different meaning from what Kevin de Young talked about. On the lips of Pastor Wilson and those with him, it has, as in the piece above, come to just mean something like “our particular brand of humour, love of PG Wodehouse and general zest for life here in Moscow”. If you go back and read de Young’s actual piece you’ll find a pretty… Read more »
The Song of Solomon reference risked a coffee spew. Nicely done.
“The invitation to become friends with more people has been is a working strategy”
Typo here.
Revoice for Nazis was a perfect title.
Good news and thanks for the books.
The burning couch is a great symbol for the dumpster fire of perversion coming from your flock. Maybe Christ Church has been treated unfairly and is maliciously targeted, they simply get more media coverage for their failures? Possible, but I think there’s more to it than that. As with so many other topics, you come so close, then completely miss the mark. I’ve always wondered why sex and “headship” are so prevalent in your writings, and are presented in such a weird way. If you genuinely understood the nature of men and women, as God designed it, none of their… Read more »
