I recently came across a few songs that I really like, and thought I should mention it. First, I recently got the album that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss put out together (didn’t see that one coming), and a couple songs there were first rate. Check out Killing the Blues and Gone, Gone, Gone. On another unexpected front, a friend gave me a recent blues album put out by Dion (remember him?). He covers some of the standards, very competently, but the stand-out songs were The Thunderer and Son of Skip James. The first is a very shrewd blues song about St. Jerome, and the second is the epitome of Christian blues.
I am also really enjoying the high inscrutability of Dylan’s Thunder on the Mountain — “Gonna raise me an army, some tough sons of bitches/Gonna recruit my army from the orphanages/I’ve been to St. Herman’s church to pay my religious vows/I’ve sucked the milk out of a thousand cows.”
While I have your attention, let me just throw in here, apropos of nothing, a great question posed by National Review concerning the recent remarks about Sharia law in the UK, as those remarks came forth out of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s mouth, or, as we might put it out here on the frontier, his pie hole.
And another thing, really apropos of nothing — here are a couple of Internet images that got a chuckle out of me.
And . . .
