Okay, so I have a question. I would appreciate a public answer on this from any recognized spokesman for the Moscow Food Coop. A flyer identifying downtown businesses that are connected to “kirkers” — folks in our church community — has in recent weeks been handed out at the cash register of the Food Coop (for purposes of boycott).
So actually, I have a couple of questions: First, could you all please explain how this came about? Why is an “under the counter” boycott being orchestrated out of the Food Coop? Who exactly approved this as a good idea?
The second question is this. A large number of kirkers are actually members of the Coop, which means they are invested participants in that business, and it seems reasonable to ask why the Food Coop itself wasn’t included on the list of businesses to avoid.
I would also appreciate it if our candidates for city council would be willing to comment on whether or not they think this is an appropriate activity. A copy of this post will be sent to them. There has been some objections over my use of the term bigotry on this blog last week, and this is just one more small example of the kind of thing we are talking about.
