You know things are getting bad when this blog won’t even talk about all that’s going on. That 18 page conversation of Doug and Gary that just went public is awful. What on earth is a pastor doing threatening businesses of potentially problematic congregants?

Good grief, Doug has written pretty extensively in this public space about this controversy. If you think he has to jump at every peanut gallery snipe yall issue, then by that standard he would never talk about anything else. Shhh? Shhh, indeed.

That Jesus was making threats against the Temple, we had to kill him. :-(
That Paul was casting aspersions against our god, and threatening our livelihood, we had to do something about him too. :-(

On the other hand, can people who agree to be recorded be all that “awful”?

We are all being recorded by God, whether we agree or not.

It seems that Natalie is seeking another round of attention. Shooting at Wilson seems to be how she wants to get it. In any case, I notice that Shhh didn’t bother to identify any actual threats from Wilson. Perhaps, under the rules of #hashtag vigilanteism, you just make the accusations, spin the narrative, and hope some of it sticks. Pathetic.

Is it best to address these issues (as commenters), or just leave them? I have some thoughts on the links

Doug was ok with being recorded at the time, wearas others are ok with some records remaining sealed. I would not over-dignify misrepresentations of the record. Even the record presented is admittedly partial, with opinion inserted in the gaps.

I believe it is important to publicly stand up to dismiss the internet hatchet jobs, and point out that their creative writing exercises against Wilson simply do not count as evidence of any wrongdoing on his part. Imputing of wicked motives is just not evidence. In other words, it is important to disqualify accusations that are structurally unjust. That stuff doesn’t even merit a hearing. Doing this step usually leaves very little of substance to even have to hear and address in any factual detail. I believe those of us who know Wilson’s character, and care about truth, have a… Read more »

On the other hand, letting the “blind lead the blind” is a Biblical principle, though Jesus never stopped speaking to the “blind” of His day. I think it’s a matter of how much to speak. Less might be better, for people who don’t listen.

I think the #hashtag vigilantes know that they are not righteous in their talebearing antics. My purpose wouldn’t be to engage them on their terms, but to discredit their unjust methods, and their gossiping, and to speak up for Wilson’s character as I have experienced it to be, and to encourage others to be on guard not to let juicy morsels get into their soul by way of confirmation bias.

Wilson is not perfect, but his back is worth defending as he continues doing the work of the Kingdom.

‘cho, I think we are talking in the same direction, we speak as we are led, either by our own spirit, or the Holy one. Matthew 15:12, Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying?” 13 But He answered, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.” Jesus conversed with the pharisees up to a point, then left them… Read more »

Christ confronted and rebuked the Pharisees insofar as it produced a defense for the sheep, but I agree that He didn’t offensively pursue the Pharisees into every hidey-hole. What I’m more interested in is a defense against unjust accusations, and encouraging others to defend their hearts against the powerful and effective contagion of gossip. We can be more vulnerable to it than we suppose. I believe it’s an honor to stand up for someone else’s good name, so that they don’t have to do their own self-vindication. In this case, one could stand up for Wilson merely on procedural grounds,… Read more »

Are you serious? I mean do you have nothing else to do with your life except recycling innuendo and invective for the purpose of disparaging a loving husband, father, and pastor?
Pick up a broom and sweep something. It will make you feel better.

Fred rented a house he owned to Susan. He didn’t ask for any references but she seemed pleasant enough and paid her rent on time. It turned out that Susan and a couple of girlfriends made some extra money working as ladies of the night from the rented accommodation. Word got back to Fred sometime later so he asked Susan to leave, apologised to the community, sold the house, and intended on being a little more circumspect in the future.

And from that point onwards Fred’s enemies always referred to him as Fred-the-brothel-owner.

Fred should have asked Susan for the “client list”!
That might have made his “enemies” more circumspect. ; – )
