Trying to Twist Away

Sharing Options

When children are spanked, even in love and affection, they often twist and turn to get away from the point of pain. In the long run, they only make their situation far more difficult.

We are trying to worship the Lord in such a way as to deal with our various sins and follies. The temptation will be to try to twist and turn at just the point where God wants to deal with us. That point is the table of the Lord.

The glory of this is that in resistance, the Lord’s Supper is a chastisement, but when we prepare for it rightly, and come with a submissive and humble heart, He provides a glorious nourishment and strength.

Do not shrink back from His kindness. When you abandon yourself in faith, His kindness is felt as kindness. But if you twist, turn, argue, explain, want to leave, and so on, His kindness can be felt as covenant severity. Do not trifle with Him, and He will establish. Humble yourself, and He will lift You up. Exalt yourself, exalt your opinions, and you will find them slapped down. Our God is a consuming fire.
