Supreme Virtue Cheating

Hillary Clinton has come out in opposition to “do-overs” in Michigan and Florida. At the same time, she now wants the first-time voting in those states to count. This, even though she and the other candidates had agreed not to compete in those states (because they had violated DNC rules by moving their primaries to an earlier slot), and Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan as a result. Hillary had previously agreed to all this, but now that the race is a squeaker, she wants to change the rules previously agreed upon, and coincedentally, the change works in her favor. Secondly, she is firmly opposed to an equitable solution for what is truly an odd situation.

Two comments. The first is that nothing reveals naked ambition more than situations like this one. The setbacks and obstacles of this campaign have done nothing to dull Hillary’s absolute sense of entitlement. She is one of the Anointed, she is the one who must be obeyed, she is the pride before whom comes the fall. The breath-taking audacity and serene hubris is, on one level, just plain fun to watch.

The second comment is that such ambition (telling itself the while that faint heart never won fair lady) is absolutely clueless about what this is going to do to the Democratic Party. Never in my wildest dreams would I have dared hope that the Democratic Party would actually blow up, that it would be Hillary that did it, and that she would do it by flagrantly ripping off the black constituency in such a manner that three out of four Americans would correctly identify it for what it is — Supreme Virtue Cheating.

If this keeps up, the Democratic Convention will sound like a vast pack of hundreds of dogs, all barking their respective and very different anthems at varying tempos and pitches. All of them will be barking and none will be listening. Get your popcorn now.
