Under the Lord’s guidance and goodness, we began conducting worship services at Christ Church DC last July. We have been most gratified and blessed at the growth we have enjoyed. With the exception of that one freak snowstorm, attendance has really been robust, We have been greatly encouraged by God’s faithfulness—He has provided us with a strong core group of members, and more coming in all the time. In addition, Brooks Potteiger has accepted a call and will be coming to serve as an on-site pastor for this congregation starting in July. So from July 2025 to July 2026, the entire story has just been one remarkable providence after another. The Lord has really been kind to us.

We have also been entertained and blessed by the protesters. When I preached there just a few weeks ago, they could not be heard in the service at all, except during the moment when we all knelt to confess our sins because at that point the meeting inside was entirely quiet. In the faint distance, we could hear all the yelling and whatnot, which was actually really a suitable soundtrack for confessing your sins.
So all things considered, we believe that this entire venture is going forward in the will of God, and that very much includes the strategic vision we have for this congregation. We have established this worship service in DC because we believe that DC really needs it, and we are here for the long haul. That being the case, we believe that it is our responsibility to begin pursuing opportunities to purchase a building near Capitol Hill. Nothing would say “permanent presence” like such a purchase would. Whatever the word is, it rhymes with commitment.
So I suppose this is the point where we have painted ourselves blue in order to run yelling into battle. This is not what the intoleristas expect from dedicated Christians and we find that it unsettles them. But the earth is going to be as full of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea, and this includes the very top of the Capitol building. We are not worshiping in DC in order to serve as some kind of ecclesiastical lobbying organization—”we sing psalms and we vote.” We are not doing this in order to network. We want to worship the God of Heaven as a testimony. We want to worship the God of Heaven in a place that desperately needs to remember that there is a God in Heaven.
And we want to do this for the long haul.
That being the case, we believe that it is our responsibility to begin pursuing opportunities to purchase a building near Capitol Hill.
So we are therefore now in the process of raising money toward that end. We have already raised a significant amount from generous contributors, and so at this point we are making this public appeal—if you wanted to help us take some more territory in Babylon, here is a link where you may give. There is also a way to make a pledge. All gifts and pledges are greatly appreciated. If you are in a position to make a larger gift, but would like to discuss that further with someone, please write Info@christkirkdc.com and we will connect with you.
It is hard to be normal with something like this. We are at the point where the church could buy a hot dog stand in DC and that would mean we would have to start fielding questions from The Atlantic about it. Okay, so that’s weird. At the same time, we are meeting in DC in order to worship the God who can save by many or by few. People notice things like that, and the sooner Americans notice it, the sooner we will be out of the mess we have made.
If you would like to be among the few, please contact us.
