I wholeheartedly agree, Douglas. An amazing man and book.

I was surprised to see this review. It’s been a long time since I read it, but doesn’t the book strongly contradict many of your narratives about Southern Slavery, Pastor Wilson?
Specifically, I think of the fact that Douglas frequently speaks not only of how cruelly he was treated, but about how his situation wasn’t even nearly as bad as what the majority of slaves were facing. That contradicts the idea that most slaves had a relatively easy life or that there was great affection between them and their masters.

I am disappointed by a pastor Wilson who wrote about slavery not being all that bad in the south, but has only given an opinion on his blog about Frederick Douglas, an essential black intellectual in knowing the sufferings of the blacks in America.
