The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life
The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life by Bruce H. Wilkinson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A former student asked me about this book, which I had never read. So I read it. There really are some worthwhile things in here. Once you discount for the evangelical cheese, which is certainly there (let us be frank), the principles outlined are perfectly biblical and orthodox. This is no “blab it grab it” book. I am now inclined to think the send up we published some years ago (The Mantra of Jabez) was not entirely fair to Wilkinson.

Thank you. Humility is largely built from the willingness to admit wrong.

And, incidentally, that humility is key to being prepared for the blessings of expanded work, responsibility, and resources.

But writing a book, so that others could learn how to follow the author’s humble example to gain such blessing, would be cruisin’ for a bruisin’.

I don’t envy those of you with the gift of teaching.

I have noticed that as my hair has greyed, I have learned that we should all be a lot slower with our criticism of other Christians.
