Pulpits often act as cover. Sniper preachers can hide up there, keeping themselves from pulling the trigger point blank at the tea table.
How many preachers want to learn that preaching one-on-one might have more effect? No, many confess at the outset that they are not really people persons.
I find that aiming above them is sometimes good for two things. 1. To get them to reach up and grab it. 2. As a warning shot.
