Now They Tell UsPosted on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 by Douglas Wilson - 2 comments Sharing Options “It is possible to find more meaning in a text, than it really contains” (Shedd, Homiletics and Pastoral Theology, p. 152).
I have definitely seen it done. More than once.
Hmm. Sometimes there is more meaning in a text than the author even knows.
Many years ago I wrote a novel, and a friend read it. Then I wrote a follow-up novel, and my friend explained all the interesting foreshadowing I had done, and how such and so theme followed through both books.
I was amazed. I didn’t intend any of it, but she was completely right. It was all there.
