I need to make a brief announcement. Ahem.
A day or two ago, Canon+ added some of Al Mohler’s content from a number of years ago, from back before the woke virus days. A firestorm of sorts broke out on Twitter, with one gentleman commenting on how much the times have changed. Al Mohler and Douglas Wilson doing something together, and Wilson is the one who got into trouble. This was taken by some as a sign that Canon was going woke, or something like that, which is not the case at all. Al’s stuff back then was really good, and we stand behind it. Unlike Al, apparently.
But others in the comment thread following Al’s tweet were questioning whether or not it was an ethics issue. I can assure everyone that it is not an ethics issue. Everything published on the Canon+ app was acquired on the up-and-up, fair-and-square, and all-legal-like. Whoever was advising Al to put some distance between himself and Canon was a bit hasty, and ought to have done some spade work before telling Al to pull his skirts away.
I may add more in a little bit.
Comments are open. As always, behave.
Hi,
Longtime supporter, new to commenting. We’ve subscribed to canon+ since day 1 & this is unsatisfactory. There are not enough details in this article to clear up the confusion, and as i’m looking on my canon+ app, it says that these lectures are from November 2021. In this article it says it’s from “a number of years ago.” Asking for clarity & transparency.
Thanks.
The talks were from around 2008, I believe. Something like that. I am not sure where the November 2021 date came from.
There are a variety of lectures dating from 2008 to, indeed, 2021. They’re all from meetings of the Evangelical Theological Society, but not all from the same year. I’m sure Canon will clarify sometime when it’s not the weekend and they’re not home celebrating the Sabbath with their families, but they have evidently have some sort of agreement to disseminate content from the WordMP3.com catalog, and have happily shared lectures from a wide variety of speakers. It’s a shame that Canon can manage to show respect for folks of various theological stripes, but Dr. Mohler has chosen to respond with… Read more »
My understanding is they were presentations to the Evangelical Theological Society and authorized for distribution to WordMP3. Canon+ made legal agreements prior to the passing of Pastor Gregg Strawbridge for the distribution of WordMP3 content within the Canon+ app.
Kyriosity and Ralph are correct.
Thank you for your response.
I am making $85/hour telecommuting. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 13 thousand us dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed me to attempt it simply.
That is what I do.. http://Www.youwork9.com
Is there any way that “Sewa” could be blocked? At best, these spamming comments are annoying, but at worst, it creates the temptation for someone to take her* seriously. *Naturally, I assume the poster is female, and that is based on the image provided, which is decidedly feminine. These days one cannot be sure anymore. In fact, because Sewa is not a recognizable name in English, it’s entirely possible that Sewa is not recognizable as a woman, but only appears that way. I rather think Sewa is a program, a bit of artificial intelligence** designed to disseminate as much robotic… Read more »
Tastes like…Sewa(ge).
Sad. Protestants always devour one another. The comments in his tweet are a shame to the faith.
Now I REALLY have to go listen to the talk of his that Canon posted!
Why in the world would anyone question Doug Wilson’s ethics?
Who is questioning Doug Wilson’s ethics? This is about Canon Press, not Doug Wilson.
Who is questioning Doug Wilson’s ethics?
Just about everyone who knows about him outside of your cloistered world.
I’m talking about in this instance. What does this have to do with Doug Wilson’s ethics? This is about Canon Press, and the idea that Doug would be pulling the levers on what Canon includes in its app content is a stretch even for your fertile, animosity-fueled imagination.
I’m not the only one pointing out Wilson’s ethical failures.

So you and some poster on puritanboard both labor under the misconception that Doug Wilson and Canon Press are a single entity. Good to know. It’s also good to know that the mods of puritanboard have some respect for the principle of not spreading accusations without evidence, because they shut the thread down.
“Unless there is something public to support any allegations of actual wrong doing in this case, let’s resist speculating ill doing. Thread closed.”
Well, the “tide” certainly went out on that one! 😉
What should an ever so noble prince do?
I was going to mention that, too. One of the most reasonable posters (and mods) on PB quickly shut that down. Prince of Tides may need to open a GoFundMe page to buy a really nice noseguard for all the face-palming he’s doing.
I wish one of these “leaders” would just say “yeah it’s on there, deal with it.”
Attaboy Doug! The scandals just keep rolling in. How many does that make for this year? 2 Peter 2:19-22.
It’s not a scandal at all. Al Mohler made an ill-advised Tweet.
Twitter commenters who were completely ignorant committed slander.
The slanders are being corrected, but at a less than lightning pace, since it is a weekend.
You should just be quiet, since all you are doing is excreting slime all over the situation.
Ray D. says,
The slanders are being corrected, but at a less than lightning pace, since it is a weekend.
And you know this how?
There once was a “prince” of tides,
Who thought himself prince of chides.
But like Brian Stelter
He was merely in swelter,
And was also the blindest of guides.
😉
There was once an “anonymous” gay grouch
His real name was ____ _____.
Because the evidence of the slanders being false is being put out there for all to see, therefore they are being corrected. That is not something someone needs inside knowledge to work out.
There was a time (not too long ago) when Dr. Mohler was addressing conferences for Grace Community Church and Ligonier. Although I am vaguely aware of the current controversy, I assumed that the content on Canon+ was from those happier days. Hence I had no angst when I saw these lectures pop up on the app. I trust the people at Canon to vet the material and my knee jerk assumption will always be that what is posted is theologically appropriate.
Pastor Wilson, this is off topic, but there is a cartoon on the website of one Hiram R. Diaz, whom I don’t know from Adam, but in the cartoon the Pope has his arm around your shoulder and is thanking you for sending so many Protestants his way. I found this interesting because I’m Catholic, I used to be Protestant, and I count you among those who helped me make the circuitous, agonizing, multi-decade swim across the Tiber. I know you intended no such thing, but there it is. I still reckon you among the knights of the culture wars.… Read more »
Doug could hardly have been clearer about intending no such thing: https://www.amazon.com/Papa-Dont-Pope-Catholic-Protestant/dp/159128189X
What a tragic story on an already-depressing day.
Al has contributed to the rolls of Canterbury, Constantinople, and Rome. Having lived in Louisville, home of Mohler’s SBTS, for 18 years, I watched a number of seminary students pass through our PCA church on their way. Seems for many of them Dr. Mohler’s thorough training in the church fathers made them realize that their modern Baptist theology was a bit lacking. This is from talking to many of them on their journeys.
Yeah, I know of at an Orthodox guy with has a pretty big following who went to seminary there. He doesn’t have fond memories of his days in Louisville. He said he once got in trouble with some of the faculty who saw him drinking a beer at a restaurant.
Idolaters always keep yearning for something they can actually get their hands on, I suppose. Literally.
“As always, behave.”
*Commence Doug Wilson chuckle*
Why are you publishing his stuff anyway?
Yeah, there’s a lesson to be learned. Don’t bother with Big Eva drama queens. Even if they say some good things (or did years ago), it’s not worth the hassle. They’re overly concerned about their reputations and being part of the
compromisedrespectable crowd.
