Minister: Lift up your hearts!
Congregation: We lift them up to the Lord!
If You, our God, had not been on our side . . .
We would not live to sing Your praise.
But now, alive, let Israel say
If it had not been for the Lord on our side,
When men rose up against us,
They would have swallowed us whole,
As was their angry intent.
Their floods would have washed over us,
The crest of the wave would have drowned our souls.
The waters of pride would have drowned our souls.
Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not let us become a prey,
Who snatched us from their ravening teeth.
Our soul has struggled free
Like a bird from the snare of the fowlers.
That snare has snapped, and we are gone.
Our help is from the Lord’s great name,
The one who made the heaven and earth.
And so, gracious Father, we worship You now through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end, amen.
