Minister: Lift up your hearts!
Congregation: We lift them up to the Lord!
Great God of heaven, You are the Lord of battles. You rise up and Your enemies scatter. You speak the word, and Your foes are confounded. You are the ultimate Warrior, and You have given us the privilege of following You into battle, singing the psalms that You have given us.
You threw down Og, the king of Bashan. You destroyed the superpower of Egypt, and You did it through the words of a prophet, standing in the courts of Pharaoh. You strike armies that rise up against Your people with panic and with plague. You empowered Gideon, and he pulled down the Baal in the town square, without getting any permission from the public monument committee, and he did this because Your Spirit was upon him.
Our God, we worship You as the God of battles. But we confess, Lord, that it has been many years since Your people have seen Your outstretched arm. We pray that we would see it, so that our children might tell their grandchildren about it. We want to glorify Your name, not only here in worship, but over the course of the coming generations.
And so, gracious Father, we worship You now through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end, amen.
