Our Father and God, You have established Your Church as a royal priesthood in this world, and so we intercede for the nations of men now, confessing on their behalf so that the grace of Your forgiveness will soon be extended to them all.
Father, we dwell among a people who have wanted to overthrow Your ancient word, Your distinction between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. Father, our nation has wanted a principle of unity that papers over the distinction that You have established, and we have wanted a humanistic, secular unity instead. Father, our people have not wanted to tolerate a faithful church, one who follows the exhortation to come out from the world of unbelief, and to be separate.
We know, Father, that if we in the Church regard iniquity in our own midst, or in our own hearts, this prayer will be ineffectual.
Father, within the Church, we have been lured and enticed by this false unity as well. We confess that we have tied ourselves to idolatrous principles of unity, principles that are not rooted in Jesus Christ. We have tried to do this with Americanism, and with traditional values, and with other broken reeds. Forgive us, we pray.
We confess our individual sins to You now—and Selah . . . We do this in the great name of Jesus Christ, and amen.
In the gospel of Jesus Christ, you are offered peace, quietness and assurance forever. You have responded to that offer by confessing your sins, and so as a minister of Christ I declare that your sins are forgiven through Christ.
Congregation: Thanks be to God!
