Unless the Lord Builds the House

Growing Dominion, Part 11

All dominion is a function of trusting God to do what He promised to do. If He says “do this, and I will respond with this blessing. Go the other way, and I will chastise you,” we can see immediately the role faith has. God has spoken, and we either believe Him or we don’t. If we do, He keeps His promises. If we don’t, He keeps His promises. Everything hinges upon faith alone.

The blessings and curses that accompany life in the covenant are not made up of our works. These blessings and curses are on our works, they are not made up of our works. The one who builds a house labors in vain, unless the Lord is building the house. Moreover, the blessings and curses are not responses to our works, they are responses to our faith or our unbelief. And, just in case we start to take a little pride in that, Paul hastens to assure us that even our faith is a gift from God, lest anyone think to boast. What do you have, he asks elsewhere, that you did not receive as a gift? And if as a gift, then why do you boast as though it were not a gift?
