You are being summoned to worship God. This is Your call to worship. So what is it you are being summoned to do?
The Word plainly declares that God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. You are therefore being summoned to fear Him, and to reverence His name. These responses are to be defined by the Word, and not by our petty whims and pleasures.
Today, any lawful call to worship is a call to massive and deep repentance because worship in the contemporary evangelical church is a travesty and abomination. We offer strange incense, and instead of the sweet smell of humble obedience, our impudence causes a sticky and putrid smell of will-worship to waft through the sanctuary. And we have to say that those who do not themselves participate in this kind of thing are not true worshippers themselves – for if they were, they would be far more offended than they are. A true call to worship today is therefore a call for every Phineas to seize his spear. And of course, this is done by right worship.
