I always remember that God cursed the Irish with the drink because He knew if He didn’t they would rule the World.

Looks like y’all are getting more attention! Cue the haters who take garbage stuff like this and hack jobs from degenerate sites like Vice seriously. You have to love a female Unitarian “pastor” calling another church a cult, too.

Why is it not okay to joke:

“Why did God give man the wheel barrow? To teach blacks to walk on their hind legs”

Brendan,

  1. Think it through- not the same thing at all.
  2. Lighten up

Tell me why it’s not the same thing.

In fact, tell me what the joke is actually saying/implying through it’s “humour”.

This joke would be inflammatory if told about black people – as well you know – and with good reason. It is a demeaning, de-humanizing portrayal of a race from a W.A.S.P. perspective. These types of jokes died out in the UK back in the 1970s, thankfully. For you to suggest that I lighten up shows how the legacy of imperialism and conquest has warped your mind. If this joke was directed at members of Christ Kirk, by the Mayor of Moscow on his website, you can be sure that Doug Wilson wouldn’t be laughing.

You could have made a good case but instead went on an absurd, woke-ist direction with that nonsense. Of course you and other “across the pond” types were equally wrong on CONVID and unquestioned obedience to absurd government policies and fear-mongering. No wonder Europe is jumping head-first into Great Reset madness faster than the U.S….even with Resident Biden trying to lead us into the abyss.

Not “woke-ist” at all. I agree with Brendan. The so-called “joke” was insulting and unchristian.
By the way – I’m one of those “across the pond types” who didn’t unquestioningly obey absurd government policies or fall for the fear mongering and met to worship. Anyone else you want to tar while you’re holding that brush?

How about dialing back the outrage and reading a bit more carefully, Big Al? I said Brendan could’ve made a good case about that being a bad joke. However, virtue signaling about “W.A.S.P. perspective,” imperialism and conquest was dumb, unless he trying to impress his DIE (diversity, inclusion & equity) overlords.

The other “across the pond” person I had in mind wasn’t you, but if you want to take it personally, then have at it.

No outrage at all. Maybe Brendan is “woke”, I dont know him. I’m not agreeing with his argument, per se, I’m agreeing with the fact that it was an insulting joke and that Brendan’s particular point about it being made about black people made that clear. Poor taste is poor taste – and the joke was poor taste.

Why did you bring up CONVID at all in relation to this? Why mention “other across the pond types”, “fear mongering” & “Great Reset” at all? And “Big Al”? Dial down the ad hominem.

There’s no ad hom from me. Go read some of Ken B’s comments and COVID hysteria from awhile back (he fully supported mandatory jabs among other things). He also pushed for pretty much unlimited obedience to the state on such issues, while giving wives/women a LOT more latitude than the Apostle Paul. If that sort of double standard isn’t woke, then I’m not sure what is. But I have no arguments about the Irish, along with blondes, white rednecks/Appalachian “trailer trash” in the U.S. and other fair-skinned groups we’re allowed to mock all day…while the slightest micro-aggression against any so-called… Read more »

If only you knew how “un-woke” and “un-leftie” I am Cherrera. I’m loathed by many LGBT+ activists and gay Christian “celebs” in the UK for being outspoken against gay marriage and the gay agenda in general. I’ve actually been banned from several “progressive” Christian websites in the UK for my views and called a “homo phobe”. I am as anti-liberalism as you could imagine. So let’s not go down the WOKE road. AI Postlethwaite is absolutely right. It was a tasteless joke. In nineteenth and early twentieth century magazines like Punch, Irish people were frequently depicted with simian (ape-like) features… Read more »

Good to see views from broader perspectives expressed in this forum. In my pre Christian days did military service (engineer) in NI some years before Good Friday agreement. Challenged and changed a lot of historical, social and political preconceptions I had held.
God bless!

Thanks AI Postlewaithe for your thoughtful posts! Listen up everybody – here’s a guy with on the ground experience of racism/sectarianism in Northern Ireland. Respect! For my part I’m a proud Irishman and Anglophile, married to an English woman, have an English daughter, and like most of my compatriots back home took time out to mourn the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, shoulder to shoulder with our British friends and neighbours. God bless you AI. And all our American cousins too!

My father’s side is of Scots-Irish descent McNeely is our last name and my mother’s side is Native Alaskan. I didn’t find the joke all that funny but I certainly wasn’t offended by it. People need to get thicker skin and stop being outraged. To show my commitment to having thick skin here is one.
I hope someday there is an Alaskan Native day declared in the USA. I look forward to celebrating it by getting drunk and passing out on the ice.
