Who Needs a Drummer?

As the joke goes, you know your stage is level when the drummer is drooling out of both corners of his mouth. If you think this display of humor to be unseemly, just scroll down a few entries where I seem to take it all back.

I heard from the grapevine that Pastor Peter Jones, a pastor in the CREC back east, recently did a fine series on gossip; at least, that’s what I was told

I think the articles on gossip miss an important aspect. When Lucy looks in the magician’s book and sees the girls on the train, Anne is a malicious gossip, but Marjorie is another sort. Anne actively tears down Lucy’s, but Marjorie’s sin is less about Lucy’s reputation than about her own. She isn’t motivated to abuse Lucy, but to protect and promote herself. The desire to look good by being in the know, to be accepted by joining in with a popular topic of conversation, to protect oneself by not taking the risk of resisting someone with more social power… Read more »

On being prude: This is why I try not to let culture have the upper hand with language. I try to flip it back on its head and tell my kids to ignore the stigma of being prude, and just be prudent.
