Jokes I Like to Tell
Once there was a man who had a very bad driving habit, which was the habit of scaring hitchhikers. It was not clear where or when he had developed his antipathy toward hitchhikers, but what was clear is that he had such an antipathy.
Whenever he saw a hitchhiker up ahead, and if there wasn’t too much traffic around, he would pick up speed and then veer onto the shoulder, accelerating as he went. It would give him a perverse sort of satisfaction to see the hitchhiker’s eyes widen, and then to see him dive for the nearby ditch, or the bushes, or whatever. He had done this off and on for years, and it was his guilty pleasure.
One day he saw a hitchhiker up ahead of him, and he fluidly moved into his usual pattern. But as he began to approach this hitchhiker he suddenly saw, to his dismay, that the hitchhiker had a clerical collar on. “I can’t do this to a man of the cloth!” was the immediate thought, and so he slowed way down and stopped, and the clergyman hopped in. This is awkward, the man thought. I have dealt with hitchhikers for years, but have never talked to one before.
And so they headed on down the road, making small talk. A couple miles down the road, the driver saw another hitchhiker, and such was the force of habit that he forgot he had a passenger in the car, and he moved into his usual hitchhiker routine. He sped up, veered onto the shoulder, and headed straight at the hitchhiker. And then, suddenly, it came back to him in a flash that he had a passenger in the car, a witness, and a clergyman to boot.
With that thought, he pulled back onto the pavement just in time, and was frantically trying to think of what he could possibly say to explain himself.
He started to stammer out an apology. “I’m very sorry . . . um, sorry . . . apologies.”
“Oh, that’s all right,” the clergyman said. “I got him with the door.”

All the Condemnation in the World
A statement of the gospel, that gospel which vanquishes the spirit of accusation.
I have to admit I usually do not find your jokes funny but today I have been almost in tears laughing.
I always heard/told this one with a nun, but a clergyman of unspecified denomination also works.
As an avid cyclist, that joke held no sympathy from me. But to show that I do have a sense of humor, and no hard feelings, here is a joke I like to tell:
Some folks say that the world is round, and others say that the world is flat, but us cyclists know that the world is mostly uphill!
The fact that it triggers people make it even funnier. Good humor usually offends some one.
Ignoring whether it applies to the present column, I think the more reliable rule is “lazy humor is usually cruel to someone”. Anyone who spends a lot of time with kids knows that the most basic, juvenile humor employed by children is often cruelty at another child’s expense. The truly talented comedian is the one who can get laughs without resorting to base cruelty or vulgarity, and I would think that’s what every Christian comedian would aim for.
elizabeth, the joke is your ticket to let go of the fear.
The vaccines don’t alter genes.
Not the point.
It’s not settled science either…just like many other things involving rushed, experimental vaccines. Of course if you rely on “fact-checkers” and the first 10 or so algorithmically-selected articles on your favorite “search” engine, you wouldn’t know this.
Can the mRNA vaccines change DNA? (msn.com)
And this.
Breaking Study Sheds More Light on Whether an RNA Vaccine Can Permanently Alter DNA – Science with Dr. Doug (sciencewithdrdoug.com)
That article is based on the same study that shows Covid-19 can alter your DNA. It shows no evidence that vaccines can alter DNA, just throws out a hypothetical. So if you’re afraid of gene-altering substances, it gives more reason to avoid Covid than to avoid vaccines.
Though I should add that even the idea that Covid-19 can sometimes integrate into DNA is controversial – other scientists have failed to replicate those first researchers’ results and believe they may be the product of lab errors:

I said it’s not settled science. It’s not. And I’ve read about the other scientists. No need to post 3 comments and go off on tangents. I’ve had COVID and it wasn’t a big deal for me. If it somehow altered my genes it makes no sense to potentially further alter them with a vaccine. Natural immunity + a lifestyle that keeps me out of high-risk categories (diabesity) + options if I get it again and it’s worse than before is enough. This is my last comment. Once again, Prov. 26:4-5 applies with someone who spends way too much time… Read more »
So I guess it’s okay for someone to make claims that directly contradict all known information, so long as you find a blogger who hypothesizes that one day perhaps something new will be discovered, even though he lacks any evidence for his hypothesis.
Your own article shows no evidence that the vaccine alters DNA, but it states that Covid-19 itself has been shown to alter DNA. So it would seem that if you want to avoid “gene-altering mystery substances”, avoiding Covid-19 is a greater priority than avoiding the vaccine.
