Peter Jones’ book review is helpful, but targeting why SSA advocates feel the need to justify their behaviors on the foundation of friendship would be even more helpful. Do heteros do much thinking/promoting the joys that come from nonsexual relations with the opposite sex? But I admit, playing with & and trying to discover and make sense of the female mind & sensibilities is not an unworthy pastime. I just wouldn’t wax too rhapsodic about it. Whereas there IS something quite moving and powerful about having plural quantities of same sex mentors / buddies / father-figures / etc hanging about… Read more »

From CrossPolitic Amazon kindly decided to start charging sales tax in the sate of Idaho. No law requiring them to do this, they just decided out of the goodness of their heart after a discussion with the government in bed, that they would start charging sales tax. From Grace and Peace: If this crowd is identified with the church through the ages, this means the great tribulation refers to something bigger than the tribulation that was to befall Jerusalem in just a few years. Cannot it not be argued that if the context demands it then our interpretation is prior to 70 AD (eg letters to the churches) but otherwise read the default from a Futurist perspective? I am appreciating the series and the Preterist perspectives (many… Read more »

However, one overlooked detail in Revelation 14:4 is that the 144 are made up of the “first fruits”. And I’m not aware of anyone categorizing the “first fruits” as a future or complete picture of the church. Throws me for a loop as I was always taught the “first fruits” are first century believers. Just a thought.

My comment here is my second point, about Jews and Gentiles (not my first point about preterism and futurism).

Doug says that these 144000 are redeemed from the earth and the multitude from heaven. This may square with your view?

I think that the 144000 are first fruits could suggest that they are Jews, to which Gentiles (multitude) are added.
