The Struggle for Equality Requires Sacrifice

A Song I Really Like for Some Reason

Jokes I Like to Tell

Once there was a businessman from Florida who had never been to the Pacific Northwest. But he had always wanted to visit, and so when an opportunity came up for someone from his company to visit potential suppliers at a conference being held in Seattle, he jumped at the opportunity.

The visit involved three tedious days at a motel conference center, meeting with various vendors, and comparing offers, and engaging in follow-up meetings. Each day was gray and overcast, and with a steady but intermittent rain, but it didn’t matter that much because all his business was at the motel.

But he had extended his visit by a day so that he could see some of the sights, which he did, and he topped off that afternoon by visiting the Pike Place Market. Still the rain kept on. It had been raining when he was at the Needle, it had been raining when he was at the Seahawks game, and it was raining now.

Finally, in exasperation, he stopped a young boy walking by him at the Market. “Tell me,” he said, “does it always rain here?”

“How would I know?” the boy replied. “I’m only ten-years-old.”

I was in the Seatlle area while in the Navy. I arrived on November 1, and we didn’t have a day without rain until the next April. I didn’t even see Mount Ranier until May 2 due to the clouds.

Bison’s not in a hurry, so you don’t need to be, either.
