Update: Thursday morning
Just visited Nate this morning with the kids again. He is feeling and looking a bit better. Updates will continue to be posted here, under this head, but not so frequently. We are leaving this morning to drive the kids back to Idaho, and Ben and Bekah are arriving this morning to pick up the family slack. Nate’s bandages have been removed, and the doctors say that everything they are seeing is expected. Thanks so much for all the support.
Update: Wednesday afternoon
Nate was transferred out of ICU shortly after lunch, and now is in a single patient ordinary room. We walked over with his kids, and they were able to visit with him for the first time. Thank the Lord, and continue to pray for a strong recovery.
Update: Wednesday morning
Nate has been seen by the doctor this morning. His stats/vitals are good, and it looks like he will be moved out of ICU after midday. The kids will visit him after that. His pain is considerable but less than yesterday.
Continued prayer requests: that the nausea would disappear, and that his physical therapy (working on balance) would go well.
Update: evening
Sorry for the delay on the updates — we were overtaken by events. The surgery was a success, and we are very grateful. I was able to visit with him a couple hours after the surgery. His signature sense of humor was still operational, albeit somewhat subdued. He said that he felt like someone had drilled a hole in his head, and this, being true, amounted to something of an understatement.
Specific prayer requests for the next 24 hours would boil down to two. Please pray that the nausea would abate and that he would be able to sleep well. And second, please pray for the physical therapy that begins tomorrow, focusing on balance.
Thank you again for all the support.
Update: 2:40 pm
We talked with the surgeon, and will be able to see Nate in an hour or so.
The report is a good one, but the surgeon said it was one of the more challenging procedures that he has done. In other words, the technical challenge of getting the tumor separated was unusually difficult, but it got done. One of the possible side effects was partial facial paralysis, but Nate was awake enough after the surgery to demonstrate to the surgeon that his face worked. So that appears to be one answered prayer immediately.
Thanks for all your continued prayers.
Update: 1:50 pm
Nate is now out of surgery and in recovery. We have not yet talked with the surgeon.
Update: 10:30 am
Nate’s procedure has two surgeons involved. The first, Dr. Friedman, completed his part and came out to update me. He said all is going well, no problems. It looks as though we are over halfway done. The second surgeon’s task includes the titanium plate that Nate was very pleased to be getting. Thank you for your continued prayers.
Update: 9:10 am
The surgery continues, steady as she goes. About a third over.
Update: 8:10 am
Surgery began as scheduled about an hour ago.
Nate is checked in to the hospital at USC, and his surgery is scheduled to begin around 7:15 am Tuesday morning (5/2/17). It will likely last until around noon. As everything unfolds, I will post updates here.
On behalf of our entire family, I want to thank you all for the notes, gestures, gifts, and prayers. We are grateful to God for all His mercies, including this one. We are also grateful to God for all our friends who have accompanied us through these mercies, including you all.
I am praying for Nate and for your family.

“Father, I want to thank you for the Wilson family and the great impact they’ve had in our world and how they’ve brought glory to your name through their work and ministry. I ask that your healing touch would manifest in Nate as the doctors perform their surgery, please guide their hands, help them to stay focused and alert, and be with Nate as he endures it. We believe you for healing and we trust in your promises to us that you work all things to the good of those who love you. Thank you Jesus for your healing and… Read more »

My kids are taking Nate up on his willingness to accept ulterior-motive-prayers and are praying for the good health of one of their favorite story-tellers :)
Praying for Nate and his doctors.
Our family is praying for our favorite author!
We’re praying for you all in Northern Virginia. My verse for this day may help you as well: “This I know: God is for me.” (Psalm 56:9)
Thank you for the updates! Keep them coming!

Side Note: why do the comments section have a repeating ad about Ellen Degenres and the LGBT community? It’s got a picture of her kissing someone. It’s always the same one and it shows up when I view this site on my phone.
Glad to hear he is doing well Doug.
Doug posted elsewhere: “Disqus started charging for ad free comment services, and I was going to
let the ads runs for a week or so to see how annoying they were. They
promise to be pretty annoying. The other problem is that Disqus has
joined the SJW bandwagon and reserves the right to edit content to deal
with the scourge of hatred. It is quite possible that they are going bye
bye.”
Thanks Valerie, I had a feeling it had been addressed already and I had just not seen it. It seemed strange that it was the same exact ad every time I checked out the site.
Thank you Lord, for hearing our prayers and for keeping your hand on this family. Praying for an end to the nausea and some much needed rest and healing. Please send Nate a fabulous physical therapist. As the Lord knows, it’s all about the physical therapy. :)
We are very glad to hear the news! Will continue to pray!
We praise God for his continued healing.
Our family’s prayers are and have been continual for Nate and his wife and children, and for all of you. We will be checking for specific requests each day. Thank you so much for the updates. We praise the Lord for His goodness to you and we thank Him for your family’s example of holy living.
Praying for Nate and family. Lord have Mercy. O Lord our God, the Physician of our souls and bodies, look down upon Thy servant Nathan and cure him of all infirmities of the flesh, in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with Whom Thou art blessed, together with Thy Most Holy, Gracious, and Life-giving Spirit, always, now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Praise God. He is good. Happy for you all
Does anyone else find it entirely amazing, unbelievable, or otherwise astounding that God has granted us mere men the knowledge and ability to drill a hole into someone’s head, extract a tumorous mass, and insert a metal plate…all with such precision that he actually survives!! I echo the words of Samuel Morse: “What hath God wrought!”
I simply cannot fathom the wonder of it all! The technology first to “see” a brain and find the tumor, then the wherewithal to open up the man’s head and remove it…and what–two days later he’s cracking jokes??!
PRAISE THE LORD FOR SUCH MARVELS!!!
I know!
I was good just being amazed by pecan pie!????
Wow, wow, wow, what a mercy
