A Seventeen Front War

If weather permits, I wanted to bring your attention to this year’s Fight Laugh Feast Conference, which is being held October 1-3, at the Factory at Franklin, Tennessee. The topic is Holy Wars: Just War, the Crusades, and the Christian Life.

Somewhere along the way, we wandered off the path by deciding that holiness was a feeling, something you have in your quiet time, and it was only between you and Jesus. Our individualistic and sentimental American Christianity has been a very real problem, and it should surprise us that the public square was taken over by the secularists. This gets me to the point of my talk, which I will get to in a minute.

Before that, I wanted to point out that our Crusader graphic here is a balanced and moderate affair. Nobody has laser eyes, and the foe we are attacking are orcs from Isengard. Nobody should be able to object to anything here, although some of them still might.

So the CrossPolitic guys assigned me a topic entitled: “Unholy Wars: Slavery, Jews, and your Mouth. The church has been embarrassed by certain Bible verses, and as part of that problem, we don’t know what to do with the Jews. Combine that with confusing the serrated edge with category mixing and stray arrows flying all over the place, and we got ourselves quite the cocktail. How’s that for a mixed metaphor? I trust that will both whet your appetite and give me some maneuvering room to organize my thoughts in a way that fits the title.

So please join us in Franklin, TN. You can go here to catch earlybird pricing that ends August 1st. There is also a pre-conference on business, some luncheon opportunities to check out, and so please pay attention to those details.

As usual, the conference kicks off with Beer and Psalms, and ends with a CrossPolitic Live show on Saturday afternoon. Besides yours truly, this year’s speakers include Dr. George Grant, Pastor Joe Rigney, Pastor Jared Longshore, Dr. Ben Merkle, Dr. Joe Boot, the CrossPolitic Crew, and perhaps a surprise or two still coming.

Hope to see you there.
