Without Guilt, Without Shame, Without Fear

Sharing Options

Our modern world is full of eating disorders of various kinds. These range from the obvious, like gluttony, anorexia and bulimia, to the not so obvious, like being way too obedient and servile to the latest food guru.

These problems rest on a common foundation, which is father hunger, coupled with the resultant guilt and fear. If your relationship to food is coupled with guilt or fear, that has to be dealt with, and the place to deal with it is here, at the meal God prepared for you.

It is here that God declares His pleasure with you through the sacrifice and obedience of Jesus Christ. That sacrifice and obedience cannot be improved, and so you come to sit at this Table, washed, clean, and perfect. You are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ Himself. You may therefore eat and drink here without guilt, without shame, and without fear.

As you learn to do that here, extend that lesson to the rest of your life with food. You will be eating later on this afternoon, and, when you do, does the guilt and fear return? If it does, that is not a sign of spiritual health and sensitivity, but just the opposite. If guilt and fear are plucking at your sleeve when you open your mouth to eat, then return here. Learn your lessons here. Your Father accepts you here.
