“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)
The Basket Case Chronicles #12
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord” (1 Cor. 1:30-31).
Paul here gets to the bottom line. What is it that insults the wisdom of man? What is it that pushes man’s pursuit of signs to the side? What does God do to flummox the philosophers and priests?
God’s answer to this is Himself. God gives Himself, and He gives Himself for all that we need. We believers are “in Christ Jesus,” and Christ Jesus is the one who is made “unto us” certain things. Christ is given to us as wisdom, and as righteousness, and as sanctification, and as redemption. Christ is all of this to us. Look at it from the other direction. If we have any wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, or redemption that are not found in the person of Jesus Christ, in His life, death, and resurrection, then what we have is not really wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, or redemption.
What is it then? If it is outside Christ, then it is folly not wisdom. It is evil, not righteousness. It is corrupt, not holy. It is slavery, not redemption. In short, if it glories in anything other than in the Lord, it is the kind of thing that the gospel humiliates.
