Weeping for Tammuz

Sharing Options

“Not even God knows what is true. Remember that for postevangelicals, God is out of it and pretty groggy. True postmoderns know that He is dead, and that is why He does not view objective truth from His Nowhere House. But we in the postev milieu are still sensitively struggling away in the church, and so we must weep for Him, as the women of old did for Tammuz. And when He finally slips away, we will then affirm that He cannot see because He is not. Until then, we will simply affirm, in line with the contours of the gospel, that He does not see because He is Indisposed” (Contours of Post Maturity, p. 65).
