The Christian faith is not divided, because Christ is not divided. There is no division here—whether Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, black or white, young or old. Neither is there a division between internal and external. There are those who seek to introduce such distinctions, just as there have been those who have sought to establish ethnic distinctions.
But you come to this table as an entire person. All of you is here. You do not feed in your heart only. You do not feed with your body only. You do not master this meal by mastering certain intellectual distinctions. You come as you are, all of you.
The only thing that seeks to divide you up in pieces is sin. Sin, the divider, is therefore to be divided from. There is to be no disunity here, and so we must divide from that which takes disunity everywhere it goes. Sin is your enemy, your adversary. Repent of it, and let it go.
You are coming to the Table of the Lord. At this Table, our God is establishing a new humanity, He is rebuilding our race from a spectacular ruin. Every member is to be built up, every ligament is to be brought together, and we do this by being built up into our head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Come to the Table, therefore, and come together.
