The Supper As Rainbow

Sharing Options

The world has sinned since the time of Noah, and there have been times when the world has sinned most grievously. But though the world has sinned, the Lord has nevertheless promised that this sinful world will never again be under water.

In an analogous way, the saints of God have sinned since their conversion—and again, sometimes most grievously. At the same time, for the true saints of God, just like the world will never be under water again, so the converted sinner will never be under wrath again.

It is possible for a baptized covenant member to be under the wrath of God, but this only happens when he has always been under the wrath of God. It is not possible for a baptized covenant member to be truly delivered from the wrath of God, and then returned to it again. The apostle Peter tells us that baptism is an antitype of the flood (1 Pet. 3:20-21), and after that flood, we were given a sign of His commitment to never do that again.

So here is Jesus Christ. He is your ark, and He is your rainbow. You are not saved by admiring the ark from a mountain top, with water lapping at your feet. You are saved by getting in it. You may look to the rainbow of promise in faith, but only after you have left the ark, after the flood. For those truly regenerate, the judgment of God can never fall again, having fallen completely on Jesus.

Come, and welcome, to Jesus Christ.
