“‘Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed’ (John 8:31). There is a distinction made here between a disciple, and a disciple indeed. Christ is speaking generally to Jews who had believed in Him, and goes on to show that it is possible that some of them had not really believed. The Bible teaches that the apostasy of the elect is an impossibility (God cannot lie), but it also teaches that apostasy is a very real sin. But if it is not a hypothetical sin, then who commits it?” (To a Thousand Generations, p. 82).
