“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)

Growing Dominion, Part 145

“Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches” (Prov. 24:3-4).

This admonition to build up wealth in wisdom is an admonition that follows immediately after the injunction not to envy evil men (24:1-2). The same thing is said in the previous chapter—”let not thine heart envy sinners . . .” The reason for this is likely the fact that evil men and sinners know how to take short cuts on the way to wealth. The one who is proceeding more cautiously and carefully is the one who will be tempted to envy. The one taking the short cut doesn’t envy the one going the long way around.

But after the results are all in, the wise man has built wealth for his house that is lasting. Wealth raked in quickly is not true wealth at all. Slow and steady wins the race.
