Reformed Theology and Classical Christian Schools

“Recall that the Reformation had begun early in the sixteenth century, and we can see that the historic position of Protestants was well-established for two and a half centuries before there were really any non-Augustinian Protestants. This pervasive orthodoxy included the American colonies, and it did not begin to erode in our nation until the early nineteenth century. In fact, with the rise of government schools and the fall of Augustinian orthodoxy, we can see that they passed each other on the road. If we think that we are going to successfully challenge the modern secularist educators without coming to grips with these issues, we are sadly deluded. We have to meet the issues involved head-on” (The Paideia of God, pp. 58-59).
