Receiving and Grabbing

The Bible teaches that there are only two tables in the world—the Table of the Lord and the table of demons. Corresponding to this, there are only two kinds of table manners. One kind of person receives what is passed to him, and another kind grabs what he wants. The former is suitable for the Table of the Lord, and the latter is hellish, and corresponds to Belial.

When Elkanah and his family worshiped before the Lord, he would give Hannah a blessed portion, and she received it. Hophni and Phinehas would take the kind of portion they demanded. And this tells you everything you need to know about the difference between faith and unbelief. Faith receives and unbelief grabs.

As you come to this Table, you are invited to come expectantly. God is a God who gives, and it is not wrong for us to expect Him to give. That is not demanding—that is faith. It is when you start to think that He might not give that you are tempted to grab.

His Word is here, and His Word has promised an abundant portion for all His sons and daughters. Are you a son or daughter? Then there is no need to grab. The blessing of bread and wine will be brought to you. If you are not a true son or daughter, then grabbing won’t help. Grabbing doesn’t work.

Before you can rest while waiting for the bread and wine, you must first rest in His gospel grace.
