“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)
Growing Dominion, Part 128
“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard” (Prov. 21:13).
This proverb teaches that what goes around comes around, and particularly in the realm of charity and almsgiving. The man who is blessed and refuses to share that blessing will one day be in need of that same kind of blessing, and will not receive it. The one who helps the poor is helping the Lord. And while is it true that the man who is unwilling to work should not receive help, it is easy for the industrious to impute that kind of laziness in any situation where he does not really want to help. But the deserving poor are with us always, and those who are making good money do not really lack opportunities to be generous—if they really want them.
