“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)

Growing Dominion, Part 83

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (Prov. 13:22).

We must begin by noting that some people are called to leave no inheritance (some by vocation, and some by the providence of God). When this is of God, and not the result of laziness or selfish squandering, the children and children’s children are invariably left a great spiritual inheritance.

But Proverbs is a very earthy book, and it is talking about material inheritance. And this means that parents (as a general pattern) should be ordering their affairs in such a way as to leave an inheritance for their children, and it should be full enough to be able to be passed on to the grandchildren. This would include capital, furniture, jewelry, family heirlooms, and more. The fact that this doesn’t sound very spiritual to us is a good indicator of how much gnosticism we have brought into our spiritual lives.
