“It is possible to talk about the final judgment and the lordship of Jesus Christ in such a way that makes it clear that He is only lord over those areas that secularists are happy to let Him have — the afterlife, for example. Who cares if Jesus is Lord in ways that never make any difference at all? . . . The Christian faith is not ‘a belief system’: it is the future of the human race. In Jesus Christ, God has reconstituted our humanity, and we are growing up into Him as God is restoring the image of God in us. That image was defaced (not annihilated) in the rebellion of Adam, but God has created an opportunity for us to come back into a complete and restored humanity again — in Christ” (Heaven Misplaced, p. 119).
