“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)
Growing Dominion, Part 126
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want” (Prov. 21:5).
We should begin by excluding from our consideration the camouflaged distortions of these tendencies. There is a timidity that pretends to be prudent and thoughtful, and there is a hastiness that pretends to be decisive. But let’s just by-pass any detailed discussion of them, and move on to the point of the proverb.
Proverbs is famous for teaching that laziness tends to poverty—but here is another significant contributor. Hastiness, or impulsiveness, tends only to want. When an abrupt decision is made—whether to buy or sell—and the abrupt nature of the decision is because of a personal emotional need, then the end result is going to be loss. Diligence runs steadily, and does the same thing every day. Day after day, faithfulness adds up, and so do the results.
