Glory is Not Wispy

Music is a form of glory. There are many forms of glory, but all of them have this in common — they are weighty. Glory is not wispy.

We know that fighting the acoustics in this space is difficult, and we want figure out whatever means of dealing with that as we can — that’s one of the reasons for experimenting with the seating arrangements. But we also know that when glory departs, the best acoustical space in the world won’t fix the dismal singing. So, we want to be good stewards when it comes to acoustics, but to the extent the acoustics are your foe, you should challenge that foe like a Christian warrior — which means not curling up in a little ball in order to whimper. Not even if you are whimpering in the right key.

Our responsibility here — for we are a Christian people — is to figure out a way to fill this space with the sound of glory. An essential part of that is singing out and another part is troubleshooting why singing out is sometimes difficult. But the ratios should be something like five parts singing out to one part troubleshooting. This is because singing out from the heart goes together with the Spirit’s filling and with glory, and troubleshooting goes too easily together with complaining.

When you sing out from the heart, God can always hear.
