Contextual Oddity

“At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16: 11)

The Basket Case Chronicles #80

“So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better” (1 Cor. 7:38).

A problem for this reading I propose is the translation “giveth” here. Unfortunately, the word used doesn’t help us out much. The KJV renders ekgamidzo as “give in marriage,” while the ESV takes gamidzo as meaning “marry.” This appears to be a situation where context has to help us decide, and I am simply suggesting that the original context may be odder than we had supposed.
